Description
The First Step in establishing a successful food plot is to have a soil test taken of the area to be planted. The soil test will indicate any adjustments needed in regard to pH and proved recommended fertilizer requirements. Without a soil test we recommend 300 pounds of 12-12-12 and 500 to 2,000 pounds of lime per acre.
The Second Step is to use the premium quality seed found in every bag of Northern Edge Wildlife Food Plot Mixes.
The Final Step is to choose the seeding method such as conventional or no-till; whichever best fits your situation. Conventional seeding involves preparing a seed bed by plowing or discing a field. Once a firm, smooth seed bed I s prepared, seed can be drilled of broadcasted and then cultipacked to ensure good seed-to-soil contact. If you don't have access to a cultipacker, a piece of chain link fence dragging behind an ATV should provide sufficient soil coverage of the seed. No-till seeding uses chemical means to kill or weaken any plant competition in the field. A no-till drill is then used to place the seed in contact with the soil. In all cases, seed should not be planted any deeper than 1/2 inch and preferably 1/4 inch.
